Samosas recipe

Samosas: These crispy, savory pastries are popular throughout the Muslim world. You can fill them with a variety of ingredients such as spiced potatoes, minced meat, or vegetables. Here's a simple recipe for vegetable samosas:

  • Ingredients:

    1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
    2. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    3. Water (for dough)
    4. 2 potatoes, boiled and mashed
    5. 1 cup peas
    6. 1 onion, finely chopped
    7. 2 green chilies, finely chopped
    8. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
    9. 1 teaspoon garam masala
    10. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    11. Oil for frying
    12. Salt to taste
Instructions:
    1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, oil, and a pinch of salt. Add water gradually to form a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
    2. In a pan, heat some oil and add cumin seeds. When they start to splutter, add the chopped onion and green chilies. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
    3. Add the mashed potatoes, peas, garam masala, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
    4. Divide the dough into small balls. Roll out each ball into a circle and cut it in half.
    5. Take one half and form a cone, sealing the edges with water.
    6. Fill the cone with the potato filling and seal the top edge tightly.
    7. Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the samosas until golden brown and crispy.
    8. Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
